How To Set Up Users Private Folders in Easy Dropbox Integration?

Estimated reading: 2 minutes 32 views

Easy Dropbox Integration Premium’s Private Folders module automatically creates a private Dropbox folder for each WordPress user — useful for member portals, client areas, or any site where every user needs their own private space on Dropbox.

Step 1: Turn On Auto Create

  • Go to Settings → Private Folders from the Easy Dropbox Integration dashboard.
  • Enable Auto Create so a folder is created automatically whenever a new user registers.

Step 2: Choose Which Users Get a Folder

  • Under Filter User Roles or Specific Users, search and select the roles (or individual users) that should receive a private folder. Leave it covering every role you want included — users outside the selection are skipped.

Step 3: Set the Folder Name Template

  • In Folder Name Template, build a dynamic name using smart tags, for example %user_login% (%user_email%).
  • Click any tag under Available Smart Tags to insert it — user tags (login, email, name, role, custom user meta), post tags, WooCommerce tags, and form/system tags are all available.

Step 4: Choose Where Folders Are Created

  • Under Parent Folder, pick Home Directory to create folders at the root of your connected Dropbox account, or Select Folder to browse and choose a specific parent folder.
  • Optionally set a Template Folder — its structure and files are copied into every new private folder.

Step 5: Fine-Tune the Behavior

  • Merge Folders: if a folder with the same name already exists, reuse it instead of creating a duplicate.
  • Share Folder with User: automatically share the new folder with the user via Dropbox.
  • Delete on User Delete: remove the private folder when the WordPress user account is deleted.
  • Show in Dashboard: show private folders in the WordPress admin dashboard for administrators.

Step 6: Manage Folders from the Private Folders Page

  • Go to Dropbox → Private Folders to see every user, their role, and their folder status.
  • Use Assign to pick an existing Dropbox folder for a user, or Create to generate one from the template.
  • Use Create All Folders to generate folders in bulk for every user who doesn’t have one yet, or Validate Folders to check that existing folders still exist on Dropbox — a folder that’s gone missing is flagged so you can Recreate it.
