What is Deno? Deno is a simple, modern and secure runtime for JavaScript and TypeScript that uses V8 and is built in Rust.

The first thing you should do is check to see if you have a version of Deno already installed. To do that:

  1. Open the Terminal by pressing Command+Space to open Spotlight Search and entering Terminal then pressing Enter.
  2. Enter deno --version in the Terminal and press Enter
  3. If you do have Deno installed, it will output the version
  4. If you do not have Deno installed, it will output something like -bash: node: command not found. Continue with these instructions to install it.

Using Shell:

curl -fsSL https://deno.land/x/install/install.sh | sh

Using Homebrew:

brew install deno

Then you need to add Environment Variables. To do that:

  1. Open Terminal
  2. Enter nano .bash_profile
  3. add below code

export DENO_INSTALL=”/Users/<your_username>/.deno”

export PATH=”$DENO_INSTALL/bin:$PATH”

Don’t forget to change <your_username> to your username

Then press Ctrl + X then y and hit Enter!  then run this command again

source ~/.bash_profile

Now Enter deno --version again to check!
